No verdict for Prairie Ridge, LW North

A long summer for Prairie Ridge and a long week for Lincoln-Way North got even longer on Thursday night.
Prairie Ridge, which has played 58 games in six weeks, and Lincoln-Way North, which has endured some emotional times on and off the field, couldn’t finish their Phil Lawler Classic title game at Benedictine University in Lisle. The game was halted because of lightning with the score tied at 5 in the top of the seventh. After a delay of 1 hour, 43 minutes, Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association officials decided to suspend the game, which will be picked up at 2 p.m. Friday. The Lawler Classic serves as the unofficial summer state tournament.
North needed three comeback wins to get out of last week’s regional, including a rally from a 12-0 deficit to beat Joliet Catholic in the regional final. The Phoenix were missing coach Joe Skarbek for that game as he was with his daughter Abby, who was diagnosed with leukemia last Friday.
The Phoenix went ahead 5-3 in the top of the sixth against Prairie Ridge, scoring twice with the help of three Prairie Ridge errors to break a 3-3 tie.
Dominic Hartman’s sacrifice fly scored Jack Troike for a 4-3 North lead. A wild pitch and throwing error by catcher Matt Krenz on the same play allowed Carter Bialka to score. Bialka had bunted and reached base safely when pitcher George Frost threw late to third in an attempt to nab Troike.
Prairie Ridge tied it with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth. Nick Bianchi doubled with one out and moved to third on Brad Schillinger’s fielder’s choice grounder. Kyle Hodorowicz’s RBI single made it 5-4 and Jordan Getzelman followed with another single to score Schillinger.
Prairie Ridge went ahead 1-0 in the first on Getzelman’s sacrifice fly. Lincoln-Way North took a 3-1 lead in the second, scoring on Hartman’s RBI single, a throwing error by Getzelman and Andy Ricker’s RBI single.
The Wolves tied it 3-3 in the third, scoring on a wild pitch and an error by Ricker.
