It was a dream day for Plainfield North's Brian Cashman and Brian Evak.
Cashman had seven RBI, Evak drove in six runs and each picked up a win on the mound Saturday as the host Tigers swept a Southwest Prairie doubleheader against rival Plainfield South, earning wins of 14-5 and 12-9.
North (15-0, 9-0) completed a three-game series sweep of the Cougars (9-7, 4-5).
"It was a great day to hit and I knew we had to outslug them," Cashman said. "This was definitely my best day of the season. These were intense games."
Cashman, who went 7-for-9 on the day, drove in three runs in Game 1. He then was the hero in the nightcap, driving in four runs, scoring three and moving to 4-0 by allowing four earned runs in six innings of work on the mound.
In Game 2, the Tigers trailed 3-2 entering the bottom of the third before exploding for nine runs over the next two frames. Cashman produced an RBI double in a three-run third. In the fourth, Caleb Kissel and Evak had RBI singles and Cashman had a two-run double as the Tigers batted around and plated six runs to grab an 11-4 lead.
"We got some big innings going," North coach John Darlington said. "I was happy with how we hit the ball all day. It hasn't been pretty, but we keep finding ways to win."
South scored in every inning of Game 2 and fought back behind solo home runs from Richard Salazar and Victor Garcia. Darrell Collins' three-run bomb in the top of the seventh pulled the visitors within 12-9, but they could get no closer.
In Game 1, Evak launched a three-run homer in the first inning and a two-run shot in the second as North jumped to a 6-1 lead.
After South pulled within one with a four-run third, highlighted by Garcia's three-run long ball, North put the game away with a six-run sixth.
Sean Renzi and Cashman had two-run doubles and Alex Starks an RBI single in the inning.
Matt Fenza also drove in two runs in Game 1 for North.
Evak (5-0) picked up the win after allowing five earned runs over five innings.
"It's been a great season so far," Cashman said. "We love winning games like this."
