Oswego too much for Plainfield North

“They have like 86 first downs.”

It was a simple hyperbolic statement heard in the Plainfield North press box, but that’s how it felt for Tigers’ fans watching the Oswego offense methodically move up and down the field Friday night.

Panthers’ quarterback Ryan West threw for 265 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another as Oswego flattened the Tigers 42-21 on the strength of 28 first downs.

“We got a real nice run and pass mix tonight,” Oswego coach Dave Keely said. “I think we kept them off balance.”

West hit Jack Kwiatkowski from 28 yards and running back Mickeel Stewart from 8 as the Panthers (4-2, 4-0 in the Southwest Prairie Conference) built a 21-14 lead at halftime.

Stewart rushed 17 times for 140 yards and two touchdowns.

“Our goal is to win a state championship,” Stewart said. “That’s what we’re headed for, but of course it starts with a conference championship. We just gotta keep rolling on and getting better every week.”

Kwiatkowski caught seven balls for 108 yards for Oswego.

The Tigers (3-3, 2-2) picked up 123 yards rushing and two touchdowns from Jay Roberts. Plainfield North quarterback Kurt Palandech added a rushing touchdown.
