Most coaches will say a batting gets going after one time through the order.

After one time through the order, Plainfield Central got going and didn’t stop until it tagged Plainfield North with a 10-0, six-inning loss in a Benet Academy Regional quarterfinal Tuesday in Lisle.

No. 4 Plainfield Central (24-8) scored six runs after two outs to beat No. 13 Plainfield North (6-16) for the third time this year.

“It’s tough to beat anybody three times,” Campbell said. “These games worry me because when you are supposed to win, anything can happen.”

The game was scoreless heading into the bottom of the second inning. Karly Jackson’s RBI single with two outs proved to be the game-winner.

Kaleigh Nagle’s RBI single with two outs in the third made it 2-0.

The Wildcats scored six times in the third, four coming after two outs, to tame the Tigers.

“Once we get through the lineup everyone usually starts hitting the ball,” Nagle said.

“I had confidence in the kids,” Plainfield Central coach Anne Campbell said. “They played great defense today, and we’ve been hitting the ball really well. As long as we were patient, we’d be OK.”

“We had a good game plan against them,” Plainfield North coach Claude Ainsworth said. “We wanted to keep the ball down and away against them.”

Olivia Scott’s RBI single scored Rachel Egly to get the rally started in the third.

Cailey Baker’s RBI double and a two-run single by Carly Trenhaile (3-for-4, 3 RBI) aided the Wildcats cause and gave Nagle an 8-0 lead after four innings.

“I started off a little shaky on the mound,” Nagle said. “But I know I have good defense behind me. I just had to let them hit it and let the defense gets it.”

Nagle (12-3) put the Tigers down in order just once and had one strikeout.

“We lost our composure a little bit in the fourth inning,” Ainsworth said of the Tigers, who had five hits and four errors. “We’re young. We had one senior on the field today.”

Plainfield Central plays the winner of today’s Benet Academy-Metea Valley game at 11 a.m. Saturday.
