Boys Basketball: Adam Reynolds, Minooka size up victory

At 6-foot-4, Minooka senior forward Adam Reynolds is a tough match-up for most opponents.
Reynolds scored a game-high 15 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the floor and Minooka forced 12 turnovers in a 49-38 victory over host Plainfield Central on Friday night in the Southwest Prairie Conference.
“I have been taking better shots lately,” Reynolds said. “If I don’t have the shot I kick it out and we run it through our offense again, which has helped.”
Minooka also received contributions from Benjamin Heide (13 points) and Anthony Thomas (eight).
Thomas started in place of starting guard Darrin Myers, who was out with a hamstring injury.
Senior forward Andre Norris led Plainfield Central with a double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
“We pride ourselves on our defense and I think we did a good job defensively tonight,” Minooka coach Scott Tanaka said. “We didn’t have Darrin tonight and (it) slowed us down offensively a bit in the game.”
Minooka (19-7, 10-2) jumped out to a 5-0 lead and extended it to 10-6 with 1:38 left in the quarter after consecutive baskets by Reynolds.
“Our big guys (Reynolds and Lavell Dean) have been with me for three years on the varsity level and we always try to use their size as an advantage for us,” Tanaka said.
Thomas’ three-pointer extended Minooka’s lead to 25-11 with 1:30 left before the half, and the Indians led 27-13 at the break. Minooka shot 10-of-21 in the first half, while limiting the Wildcats to 6-of-24 shooting and forcing eight turnovers.
Consecutive three-pointers by Heide pushed Minooka’s lead to 40-22 with 4:58 remaining in the game.
Plainfield Central (6-16, 1-11) mounted a small comeback, but could only cut the deficit to 45-36 on a Curtis Harrington three-pointer.
“Impatience on our end and then several miscues seemed to kill us tonight and against a good team you just can’t do that,” Plainfield Central coach Steve Lamberti said.
