Palatine runs by Rolling Meadows

Updated: September 3, 2011 1:06AM

John Serio and Palatine ground up Rolling Meadows 30-13 Friday at Rolling Meadows.

Serio rushed for three touchdowns as Palatine bounced back from their loss last week to Montini.

Serio’s running kept Rolling Meadows’ defense on its heels most of the game. Running behind Nathan Gerdes, Layne Kirch, Dan Jeske, Tyler Sydlowski and Josh Baldus, Serio picked up 229 yards on 31 carries.

“The line did a great job upfront,” Serio said. “The holes were huge and I was able to run downhill.”

Palatine (1-1) built a 16-0 advantage iin the third quarter thanks to a three-yard touchdown run by Serio, a 25-yard field goal by Kevin Hilmer and a 74-yard run by quarterback Ethan Oles.

Meanwhile, Palatine’s defense bottled ip Rolling Meadows quarterback Jack Milas(34-of-50, 221 yards). Led by Jesse Bobbit, Dan Riddle, Andrew LaVeau, Julian Turner, Lucas Rago, Nick Novelli and Bobby Iacullo, Palatine was able to keep Milas from throwing downfield.

“We were able to bend but not break,” Palatine coach Tyler Donnely said. “We came up with big plays and some big hits.”

Rolling Meadows (1-1), which rallied from a 21-point deficit a week ago, tried to come back again Friday. MIlas tossed touichdown passes of 26 and 9 yards to Artie Checchin (13 receptions, 135 yards)

But each time the Mustangs scored, Palatine, which amassed 501 yards of offense, got touchdown runs by Serio to keep the pressure on Rolling Meadows.
