Boys Basketball: Balanced scoring powers Fremd

Fremd took down crosstown rival Palatine 54-40 Friday night in the Mid-Suburban West on the backs of three double-digit scorers.

Garrett Peters and Adam Gorecki led the way with 14 points each, and Riley Glassman drained 10 points and six rebounds.

“Patience,” said Fremd coach Bob Widlowski. “We were very patient as a team, which led to a lot of scoring.”

Fremd shot 51 percent from the field, and went 3 for 9 from beyond the arc.

Peters hoisted four three-pointers, draining three of them.

“We were focused,” said Peters. “This is just the beginning, we’re looking to win conference.”

Fremd (12-9, 5-2) led 25-13 at halftime despite shooting just under 40 percent.

Palatine (2-18, 1-6) closed in at the end of the third – trailing 37-24 – and again midway through the fourth quarter when the Pirates came within nine.

But late fouls and missed threes gave Fremd a 20-point lead with five minutes to play.
