Football: Tyson LeBlanc takes over at Oswego East

Updated: December 16, 2011 9:19PM

Tyson LeBlanc is ready for a new challenge.

After leading Curie to five IHSA playoff berths and one Public League title in five seasons, LeBlanc resigned to become head football coach at Oswego East.

“I’ve always thought about trying the suburbs or getting closer to Sterling,” LeBlanc said, referring to his hometown.

He takes over at Oswego East for Mark Green, who resigned after this season.

Green started the Wolves’ program and was 14-49 in seven seasons, including 2-7 this year. Oswego East is seeking its first IHSA playoff berth and also its first win over crosstown rival Oswego.

Oswego has been considerably more successful than its newer rival, winning state titles in 1992 and 2003 and making the playoffs 23 times in the past 26 seasons.

LeBlanc believes there’s room in town for two good football teams.

“The Oswego community likes to win,” he said. “They’ve got the same kids at Oswego East. ... There is some talent there.”

Curie went 33-27 under LeBlanc, winning the Public League title and falling to Fenwick in the Prep Bowl in 2010.
