A little trickery is always good when it works to perfection.

Romeoville used a double pass on its fourth play of the game, resulting in a 30-yard touchdown, and got a stout defensive effort throughout the game en route to a 31-10 victory over Oswego East in Southwest Prairie conference action Friday night.

“It was a complete team win,” Romeoville coach Jeff Kuna said. “We had a double pass trick play early on that worked out and Jake (Bambule) was on tonight.”

Romeoville (2-5, 1-4) was led by junior quarterback Jacob Bambule (14-28, 216 yards, 3 TD’s) and senior running back Perez Ford (10 rushes, 75 yards).

On the double pass, Bambule threw a lateral pass to Tim Welch who then found an open Miguel Ford for a 30-yard touchdown and a 7-0 lead at 8:52.

“That was my first conference win,“ Bambule said. “We really wanted it bad this week.”

Bambule connected with Welch for a 10-yard touchdown with 10:10 before halftime for a 13-7 lead. The one-play drive was set up when Oswego East high-snapped the ball over the punter’s head that lost 40 yards.

Bambule’s third touchdown came on a 16-yard strike to Miles White at 11:10 in the fourth quarter and a 25-10 lead.

Running back Chris Cooper led Oswego East (2-5, 0-5) with 115 yards on 26 rushes.

“Two big plays on special teams hurt us tonight,” Oswego East coach Mark Green said. “Give credit to Romeoville, they made the plays tonight.”
