Oswego comes back to beat Romeoville

Romeoville got a couple of breaks to get back into the game in the first quarter but the Spartans couldn’t take advantage of the one break they needed to turn the tide against Oswego Friday night.
Oswego (1-2) came back from a one-point deficit late in the third quarter to post a 25-14 win over the Spartans in the Southwest Prairie Conference football opener for both schools at Romeoville.
The Spartans (1-2) had just taken a 14-13 lead – their first advantage of the contest -- with a little over six minutes remaining in the third quarter. On the ensuing kickoff Miles White made the most jarring hit of the night and dislodged the ball from the Panther return man.
“The first two guys nearest the ball were both ours,” Romeoville coach Jeff Kuna said. “But somehow the ball bounced away from both of them and Oswego got it back. If we get that fumble and start a possession right there at the 20 yard line, we got a chance to go up by as many as eight points and the whole complexion of the game changes.”
Instead, Oswego took possession and marched 72 yards in nine plays and regained the advantage at 19-14. The Panthers then held the Spartans to just one first down on their next drive and took the ball over and scored another touchdown to ice the win.
“We did a lot of good things on that field tonight,” Kuna said. “The next six games in our league will be very interesting.”
Senior Perez Ford scored both touchdowns for Romeoville, one on a 4-yard run and the other on a 20-yard pass from quarterback James Rooks.
