Quietly, Orr has turned in a solid season on the football field. The Spartans continued their success with a 26-12 win over Young on Friday in the opening round of the Public League Playoffs at Orr. The Spartans (8-1) have now rattled off eight consecutive wins and fought back from a 12-0 deficit to score 26 unanswered points to seal the victory.

"This game was big and for us, it's a stepping stone to where we want to be," Orr coach Kevin Jackson said. "We looked at Young as one of the best second-tier teams in the city and for our team to come out and win gives us a lot of confidence going forward. We're trying to build up our program and keep winning."

Young (5-4) built up a 12-0 lead thanks to a 29-yard touchdown pass from Casey Ford to Bobby Jackson and a 59-yard touchdown run from Terry Baggett, but Orr quickly stormed back with a three-yard touchdown run by Carl Young (10 carries, 48 yards) to cut the lead.

The Orr run game again stormed back on the next drive as quarterback Jamal McDowell (11 carries, 66 yards) scored on a five-yard touchdown run as the second quarter clock expired to make it a 12-12 game at the half.

In the second half, it was all Orr. Ronnie Buchanan punched in a 12-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and after a Robert Forbes interception, his second of the half, Orr put the game away with a 15-yard touchdown run by Young. The two-point conversion after made it 26-12.

"We kept on fighting, even though we were down 12-0," said Forbes, who helped lead an Orr defense that allowed one Young first down in the second half. "We just played hard and we came out and stayed focused."

Buchanan (16 carries, 89 yards) also added an interception in the second half for Orr.

Baggett sat out for most of the game after the 59-yard touchdown run in the second quarter with an ankle injury.
