The younger Jim Nudera earned the bragging rights Friday as York won 36-14 at Oak Park in the West Suburban Conference Silver Division opener for both teams.
Nudera, the starting quarterback for the Dukes (3-0), completed just three passes but two of them for touchdowns to Zach Preuss (54 yards) and David Byerley (22 yards). Running back Ryan Kent once again was a workhorse, gaining 205 yards on 33 carries with three TDs.
The elder Jim Nudera is the Oak Park head coach.
"I don't know. Maybe my dad sleeps in the garage or something (after this result), " joked the younger Jim Nudera. "It really was a lot of fun. This is a nice thing to remember, but tomorrow morning we have to go in and start working on Proviso West (our next opponent)."
Oak Park (1-2) actually led 14-8 in the second quarter, but after a bad pitch went out of the end zone for a safety, the Dukes took the ensuing kick, scored on Kent's one-yard run 33.9 seconds before halftime for a 17-10 lead and never looked back.
York needed just two plays to score on its first possession of the second half after getting the ball at the six following a fumbled punt snap. Kent scored on a three-yard run.
Kent, whose final score came in the third quarter on a 12-yard run, had gains of 36 and 35 yards in the second quarter and now has 10 TDs this season, nine of them rushing.
Oak Park running back Tony Stapleton gained 97 yards on 20 carries. Fullback Sawvanche Wonsey scored the game's first touchdown on a seven-yard run, and quarterback John Phelan (8-for-16 passing, 91 yards, two interceptions) scored on an eight-yard run with 8:56 left until halftime.
