York, Hinchley shut down Huskies

Oak Park-River Forest homered 14 times during its five-game trip to Florida last week, but the Huskies managed only two hits against York left-hander Ryan Hinchley Monday.
In the West Suburban Silver opener, Hinchley earned his second consecutive shut out as the Dukes cruised to a 14-0 victory in six innings at Oak Park.
Zach Weigel's single and Frank Picchiotti's double were the only hits off Hinchley (2-0), who has allowed one run this season in a game against Rolling Meadows March 28. Hinchley, a senior, was the winning pitcher in York's 7-0 season-opening victory over Barrington March 19.
"Oak Park is a very good team year in and year out," said Hinchley, who had six strikeouts and did not allow a walk. "The key to pitching is to keep the hitters off balance and give your team a chance to win."
Hinchley changed speeds and threw more than 18 pitches in only one inning, the 23-pitch third when Weigel hit a two-out single, but was thrown out at second in an attempted steal.
The Dukes (5-0, 1-0) batted around twice in the game, sending 10 to the plate in a four-run fourth and 12 batters in the seven-run sixth. The losing pitcher was P.J. Brennan, who allowed six runs and six hits in 3 1/3 innings.
York leadoff hitter Joe Paparone (3-for-3) scored three runs while Matt Williams (2-for-5, two runs, two RBI), Joe Boozell (3-for-4, two RBI), Phil Ganser (2-for-4, two runs) and Mike Trumbull (2-for-4, two runs, two RBI) took care of most of the 12-hit attack for the Dukes.
"Ryan did a nice job," OPRF coach Chris Ledbetter said. "He struggled last year with throwing strikes, but obviously he's cleaned that up."
The Huskies (4-2, 0-1) played without Purdue-bound junior catcher Jack Picchiotti, who served a one-game suspension for violating a team rule. Picchiotti is expected to return for OPRF's rematch at York Tuesday.
The game against York was OPRF's first against an Illinois team this season. The Huskies won their first four games of the season until losing 12-7 against Flagler Coast, Fla., on April 1. OPRF scored 10 or more runs in three of its first four games and has at least four players with more than one home run this season.
"We were really flat [Monday]," Ledbetter said. "We just didn't come out to compete."
