North Shore Country Day's passing game shifted back into high gear on Saturday.
But it wasn't enough to deliver the first win of the year for the Raiders.
North Shore dropped a 24-20 decision to visiting Mooseheart on Saturday despite 218 yards passing by quarterback Trey Surpless. Surpless completed 15-of-23 passes, including a 68-yard touchdown toss to David Thomas that enabled the Raiders to hold a 12-8 halftime lead.
Thomas finished with eight receptions for 150 yards. He and Surpless tried to rally the hosts in the final two minutes as Surpless scored on a 4-yard run and then threw a successful PAT pass to Thomas.
But the Raiders couldn't get any closer.
North Shore will play at unbeaten Alden-Hebron to wrap up the regular season today (Thursday).
Jordan Stein improved 10 places from a year ago at last weekend's Class 1A IHSA state golf tournament -- and wasn't satisfied.
Just wait 'til next year.
The North Shore Country Day School junior standout tied for 22nd place with a two-day total of 155, 13 strokes off the winning effort by Travis Kreiter of Brimfield at Prairie Vista Golf Course in Bloomington.
"I think Jordan was a little disappointed this year, because he had aspirations of finishing in the top 10," coach Jeff Terwin said. "He was pretty erratic from 100 yards in, especially on the first day (when he shot a 79), and he had trouble getting the birdies he needed. He really had to scrape to get that 79."
