Brigit Ieuter and New Trier looked on their way to adding another win

to the team's recent streak Thursday.

The Trevians led Glenbrook South by two runs going into the bottom of

the sixth inning. But the junior starter served up a two-out,

game-tying home run to Kim Lohre.

Instead of caving in, Ieuter got stronger. She retired 10 of the final

11 batters in the 4-2 win over the Titans in nine innings.

New Trier scored the deciding runs with the assistance of two errors

and Mimi Morris' RBI single in the top of the ninth. Errors

contributed to three of New Trier's runs.

"It bothered me," Ieuter said of giving up the late-inning homer. "But

I put it behind me. I just tried to get that last out of the inning."

The team's fifth win in a row moved New Trier (7-6) to 4-0 in the CSL

South as Glenbrook South (8-6) dropped to 3-1 in league play.

"The best part of the game was how Brigit didn't lose her

concentration after that home run," said New Trier coach Jim Cadwell,

whose team started the season 0-4. "It would have been easy for her to

do that. But she was confident and composed and kept us in the game."

Ieuter raised her record to 6-4. The Trevians have allowed only five

runs over their five-game win streak.

Lohre did her best to put the Titans in a position to at least tie the

game in their last at-bat. The big-swinging senior belted a one-out

double to the center-field wall, but she was stranded on second base

to end the game.

"We know we can beat them," said Lohre, who has a career-best five

homers this spring. "We should have won."

Jen Zucker went the distance in the loss.

"We knew we could play with them," Glenbrook South coach Kay Sopocy

said. "We had a couple of miscues, and we couldn't get the bats on it

like I hoped."
