Marist can’t match big plays by Nazareth

A do-it-all star for Marist on offense and defense, senior Ryan Meyer knows the RedHawks are capable of a big play in all aspects of the game.
Hosting Nazareth on Friday night in an East Suburban Catholic game, No. 8 Marist saw the big plays work against them in a 33-20 defeat.
“Here and there big plays will happen,” Meyer said. “You just have to respond to them. Just like this game, we have to respond and learn from our mistakes. We need to get better as a team and keep working.”
Meyer had a 2-yard touchdown run for Marist (3-2, 3-1) while also catching three passes for 48 yards. Ian Woodworth finished 18-of-36 passing for 205 yards and an interception. Peter Andreotti ran 19 times for 114 yards and a rushing score, a 34-yard run in the third.
Trailing 27-20 in the fourth and driving, the RedHawks could not capitalize, turning the ball over on downs with five minutes remaining in Nazareth territory. Nazareth answered with Rudy Romagnano scoring his fourth rushing score of the game, a 23-yarder that closed the door on Marist’s comeback chances.
Romagnano also scored on runs of 5, 69 and 77 yards. Kalium Ewing returned a kick-off 97 yards for Nazareth (4-1, 4-1).
