Nazareth 'D' stops Clark

Nazareth used a dominating defensive performance to cruise to a 37-0 victory

over Clark Saturday in La Grange Park.

The Roadrunners allowed just 33 yards of total offense en route to an easy

win in their opener.

Nazareth led just 14-0 at halftime, but pulled away in the second half.

Five different players scored touchdowns for the Roadrunners, including St.

Viator transfer Joe Yruegas, who gained 68 yards on 12 carries in his debut

with his new team.

Sophomore Rudy Romagnano got the Roadrunners on the board with a two-yard

touchdown run on Nazareth's first series and Yruegas added a three-yard TD run

in the second quarter to put Nazareth up 14-0 at the break.

Junior Joey DeSimone made it 21-0 with a 12-yard touchdown run in the third

quarter and sophomore Brennan Rompa stretched the lead to 28-0 with a two-yard

scamper.

Sam Poulos, who converted four extra-point attempts, booted a 22-yard field

goal to put Nazareth up 31-0 early in the fourth quarter and junior Alex

Reynolds capped the game's scoring with a five-yard run.

Nazareth senior quarterback Matt Behrendt completed 5 of 13 passes for 69

yards and rushed for 29 yards on three carries.

David Devine had an interception and David Gutierrez contributed a sack in

the shutout.
