Zadrozny wins it for Munster

MUNSTER - As soon as she made contact, you knew it was over.

Munster senior Angelique Zadrozny ripped a liner to the wall in the bottom of the eighth inning, scoring Sarah Clusserath and giving the Mustangs a 6-5 victory over Hanover Central.

"I knew that, with no outs and the bases loaded, even if I messed up I probably wouldn't have to worry about it," Zadrozny said. "I did what I always do; just relaxed and looked for my pitch. The first one just happened to be there so I went for it."

Clusserath, the No. 9 batter, started the rally with a leadoff single.

"It makes it a lot easier to score when the bottom of your lineup is getting on base," Munster coach Beth Thornburg said.

Said Hanover coach Larry McMillen: "Munster has some good hitters and they really pounded the ball. We like to play the better teams in the area so we can see where we're at. Our team is inexperienced this year, so we've got some work to do. But we're going to get better."

An RBI single from Katie Klopp gave Hanover a 1-0 lead before Munster responded with two of its own in the bottom of the first. The big blow came on a solo home run by Zadrozny, her first of the season.

In the fourth, the Mustangs went ahead 5-2 on a two-run inside-the-park home run by Briana Zunica.

Hanover tied the game in the fifth, thanks to a two-out rally. Two walks came around to score on a single by Tiffany Gibson, who then scored on a double by Klopp.

Each team had chances to break the 5-5 tie. Munster failed to score in the fifth despite getting runners on second and third base with no outs. Hanover's Ashley Yoways drew a leadoff walk in the seventh and quickly stole second, but was stranded.

Yoways - a freshman - went the distance for the Wildcats, striking out three and walking four. Munster's Emily McCullough gave up five runs in five innings. Carly Murphy pitched three scoreless innings in relief.
