Big run carries Stevenson

After being tied at five points, third-seeded Stevenson went on a 25-0 run which would prove to be enough in a 63-43 win over Mundelein Wednesday night in the Grant Regional semifinal.
"We definitely locked down and played good defense," said senior Anna Morrissey. "We tried our hardest to stop penetration; that was one of our goals during the game."
It was Morrissey's show in the first half as she struck for 19 of her 22 points and Stevenson (21-8) went into the break up 39-19.
In the second half, the Mustangs (13-18) continued to struggle and were only able to get as close as 16 points.
"I thought we passed the ball really well, we got the ball to the open girl and we executed our plays well," Morrissey said.
Senior Michelle O'Brien added 13 points while Mundelein senior Olivia Dunigan put up a team-high 13 points.
"We just need to keep on working together," said Morrissey.
The Patriots will now square off with the winner of Barrington and Highland Park in the regional final Friday at 7:30 p.m.
"I think that if we come out with the same effort, the same emotion and shoot the ball as well as we did today on Friday, I think we're going to be tough to beat," said coach Tom Dineen.
