Football: George Kaider takes over at Mundelein

George Kaider, who was named as the new head football coach at Mundelein on Tuesday, certainly is no stranger to football.
Prior to joining the Mustangs' staff in 2009, Kaider, a counselor at the school, had been a head coach at Pekin (2008) and Richmond-Burton (2000).
Kaider also has been on coaching staffs at McHenry, Lake Zurich and his alma mater, Palatine.
“What I’m looking forward to doing is building something very special for the Mundelein community that is in line with the excellent academic and athletic programs that we offer at the high school,” said Kaider, in a school press release. “I would like the football program to teach our athletes how to make a personal commitment, work hard to follow through on that commitment, and develop life-long friendships and memories. I plan to focus on developing a tremendous strength and conditioning program and leadership training while always stressing strong academic performance.”
At Palatine, Kaider played middle linebacker for Hall of Fame football coach, Joe Petricca. He was captain of the Pirates’ 1987 team, which went 9-0 in the regular season. He later was named the team’s Defensive Player of the Year and earned the Jeff Rome Memorial Award for team and school citizenship.
Kaider went on to play Division II football at Winona State University.
Kaider’s longest coaching stint has been at McHenry. He worked as defensive coordinator to Mike Noll — now at Glenbrook South — for 10 seasons at two different junctures. McHenry’s ‘03 team finished 10-2 and lost in the Class 7A state quarterfinals to state runner-up Libertyville.
“We are happy to have George Kaider as our new head football coach,” noted Mundelein Superintendent Jody Ware, in the press release. “We’re confident that his background as a player and a coach will help him to
provide the leadership and vision for successful football teams now and into the future.”
