Senior Kara Wilson scored four goals to lead Naperville Central to an 11-8 victory over Loyola in the state water polo quarterfinals Friday at Stevenson.
‘‘It’s crazy, it couldn't be better," Wilson said. "Freshman and sophomore year we made it to state, but lost by a lot in the first round.’’
Haley Nelson and Samantha Shamburek added two each for the Redhawks (23-11).
Liz Clarke led Loyola (22-12) with three goals, while Maeve O’Connor and Ashley Letrich added two each.
* Morgan Bonk scored four goals to lead Fenwick to a 10-4 win over Homewood-Flossmoor.
Bonk scored three goals in the first half, when Katie Tynan scored both her goals, to help the Friars (26-4) build a commanding 8-3 halftime lead.
Andrea Peterson led Homewood-Flossmoor (20-11-1) with two goals. Kiley Maanum added a goal after stealing the ball from Emma McKernin and Katie McHugh early in the fourth quarter.
Lisett Calderon, Stephanie Ovalle, Welle Huening and Colleen Carey each added a goal for the Friars.
* Becca Shopiro scored six goals and Rachel Cliburn and Amy Michelau added three each as Stevenson (28-6) beat Fremd 16-7.
Katie French and Erika Lauraitis scored two goals each for Fremd (26-2).
‘‘They played their hearts out, even in the last quarter when they were down by a lot, they were still willing to fight for the ball,’’ Shopiro said.
* Laura Perez scored five goals for Mother McAuley as the Mighty Macs (21-7) routed Evanston 10-2.
McAuley goalie Patty McNamara had six saves, while Anne Frigo made seven for Evanston (15-15).
