Minooka offense pounds Joliet Catholic

Minooka softball coach Mark Brown could not help but smile, let out a yell and work a few fist pumps into the celebration.
"Now that's Minooka softball," he said.
The Indians, one of the good teams in the Joliet area, had just laid a 15-0 spanking Thursday on another of those good teams, nonconference rival Joliet Catholic.
While it may be argued what Minooka accomplished was too good to be "Indian softball" or anyone else's softball over the course of a season, it sure was impressive for a day.
Minooka had lost two games this week, including a tough 6-5 decision to Joliet West, and it hurt. "That West game was a heartbreaker that we thought we should have won," Brown said.
So, the Indians (3-2) took it out on their next opponent, previously unbeaten JCA (3-1).
"After we lost Monday and Tuesday, we had a good practice Wednesday," Brown said. "I could tell the girls were hungry. They came out and hit today."
You might say that.
The onslaught began when Lindsey Fenner's two-run homer off JCA right-hander Ashley Searing provided Minooka a 3-0 cushion in the top of the first inning.
The Indians added four runs in the second, three in the third and five in the sixth.
Sophomore pitcher Sara Novak, a sophomore, belted a long two-run double in the second inning and a three-run homer in the fifth.
Kim Ramsak did not start but took over at third base in the fourth inning. In her one at-bat in the fifth, she blasted a two-run homer.
Aly Zembruski rapped a triple among her three hits and Kassie Marsala doubled and singled twice. They drove in two runs apiece, as did Jackie Lilek. Jordyn Larsen and Kate Chitkowski, both of whom bat in the bottom half of the order, contributed to the Indians' 17-hit attack with a double and single each.
Plenty of Minooka's knocks were hit on the button, and a few followed the long-standing baseball directive - "hit 'em where they ain't."
"The hitting really got contagious for them," JCA coach Dave Douglas said. "So then we moved back a little on defense, and they dropped in some of those dink balls.
"They get all the credit. They probably weren't happy about losing a couple games this week, and they came here and beat us."
