Minooka wasted little time establishing which team was going to win the Southwest Prairie Conference championship.
The Indians started the day with a 1,101 and duplicated the feat in Game 5 on their way to winning their second conference championship in three years. Minooka finished with a combined 116 points.
Oswego was second with 86.
“We bowled pretty well today as a team,” Minooka coach Frank Yudzentis said. “We bowled great today. It was a good day for us today.”
“I didn’t feel well all week,” Minooka’s Courtney Johnston said. “I feel better, but my teammates helped out so much. We stuck together and pulled it out today.”
Pulling out her fourth All-SPC award was Johnston, who battled an illness all week and still rolled a 1,353 six-game series to finish third at the tournament. Her best games were a 269 to start the tournament and a 254 to end it.
“It’s my senior year and I’m pretty happy,” Johnston said. “It feels really good. I’m proud of myself. I pushed myself to the limit, even further, this year.”
“She was sick as a dog today,” Yudzentis said. “To do what she did today is a testament to her.”
Also earning all-conference status were Minooka’s Emily Koulis (1,344, fifth place) and Alison Warwick (1,268, seventh). Koulis rolled three games of 247 or better, while Warwick posted five games of 200 or better.
“Their maturity and confidence you can’t teach,” Yudzentis said. “That comes with age and experience.”
“We all stuck together as a team,” Johnston said. “The team is a big key for us right now and if we stick to that, we’ll be all right.”
Plainfield North entered the tournament in third, but settled for fourth. Taylor Wilmoth rolled an 1,189 to help her earn an all-conference medal.
Jennifer Goldman, of Plainfield South, was the 12th and final all-SPC medalist, helping the Cougars finish fifth. Ivory Miles, of Plainfield East ,won her second all-league award as the Bengals took sixth. Plainfield Central was seventh, Romeoville eighth.
