MINOOKA -- There was no stopping Tim Riley.

The hard-running Riley was a one-man wrecking crew for Oswego High School on Friday.

Riley rushed for 228 yards, scored 4 touchdowns and made his presence known defensively as the Panthers handed Minooka a 44-6 setback in Southwest Prairie Conference play.

"Riley is a load and very talented football player," Minooka coach Bert Kooi said. "It didn't matter how many guys we had in the box. Oswego was more physical than us.

"It takes more than one or two players to bring Riley down. If you don't get him early, he drags people and keeps dragging them for more yardage."

Oswego (6-2, 5-1), which lost to Plainfield Central last week, used the running of Riley to build a 28-6 halftime lead on the Indians (3-5, 2-4).

The 6-foot-3, 230-pound Riley, who has committed to Northwestern and also plays defensive tackle, rushed for 194 yards on 23 carries in the first half. He scored on runs of 5, 3 and 35 yards in the opening half.

The first-half statistics belonged to the Panthers, who amassed 257 first-half yards, including 214 rushing. Minooka had 83 yards in the first half.

The Indians scored their only touchdown in the second quarter with 5:35 remaining. Junior Elliot Allen received an Oswego punt and returned it 73 yards for a touchdown.

"That was a great effort by Elliot," Kooi said. "He made a fine play on that punt return."

Riley kept up his onslught in the second half as well. He caught a 25-yard touchdown pass form Brian Welch in the third quarter. He also intercepted a Minooka pass in the third quarter to stop a potential touchdown drive.

Senior Brian Martin played quarterback for the Indians. Martin broke his ankle in the season's opening game.

"Brian showed what sports is all about," Kooi said. "No matter how tough things get, you can't quit. I was also pleased with the effort of Brian Bonds on defense."
