In the end, John Boyd just wanted his city to love him as much as he loved it. There were a host of reasons the former West Side coach left his city and alma mater for Michigan City. Parents, he says, pulled their kids out of his program. "Street agents" he says steered kids away from his program. A controversial city policy requiring every head coach in Gary to reapply for his or her job on an annual basis. But mostly, Boyd felt Michigan City would appreciate him more than Gary did.
