Bengals too much for Mather

Updated: March 22, 2011 4:14PM

Mather scored on its first play from scrimmage but after that, it was all Bogan. The Bengals soundly defeated the Rangers 50-16 on a very soggy field at Winnemac Stadium. Russell Williams ran for 156 yards on 10 carries and scored two touchdowns for the Bengals.

"The front line was awesome today," said Williams. "We practiced hard this week. It felt good."

Rashsaan Fox (17 carries for 78 yards, two touchdowns) ran 63 yards for a touchdown on the Rangers' first play of the game. The two-point conversion gave the Rangers' an 8-0 lead. On the next possession, the Bengals took over. Williams scored his first of two touchdowns on a five-yard run and the two-point conversion to tie the game.

DeAndre Bingham caught an 18 yarder from quarterback Terrence Wafford (7-for-17, 168 yards, two touchdowns) with 4:32 left in the first quarter. The Bengals lead 14-8 at the end of the first quarter and never looked back.

The Bengals (1-3) ran through the mud and the Rangers (1-3) defense for five more scores to dominate the second and third quarter.

Williams scored his second touchdown on a nine-yard run; Denzel Nelson (six carries for 107 yards) ran 55-yards for his first of two touchdowns of the game, and Vance St. George (four receptions for 136 yards) scored twice on a 31-yard reception from Wafford and a 75-yard kickoff return. Nelson score on a two-yard run, his second TD of the game, to give the Bengals a commanding 50-8 lead going into the fourth quarter.

"I tried my hardest out there and tried not to slip on the mud," said St. George. "I used my strength to snatch the ball. The whole team can catch the ball. We are not a one man team."

The Bengals defense held the Rangers to seven yards passing and 92 yards on the ground which included the long run of 63 yards by Fox.

"We graduated 25 players last year," said Bengals Head Coach Samuel Jones. "We're a young team but we have some weapons … We didn't make the mental errors that cost us the Lane Tech game. WE got our running game going and that was the key."

Fox closed out the scoring with a 75-yard kickoff return for his second touchdown to open the fourth quarter.
