Roberts’ three TDs lead Plainfield N past Bradley

Junior tailback Jay Roberts quickly gave reason for Plainfield North fans to forget about last year’s Mr. Everything Kapri Bibbs as he rushed 25 times for 198 yards and three touchdowns in leading the Tigers to a 36-20 victory over visiting Bradley-Bourbonnais in a nonconference game Friday night.
“It feels great right now,” Roberts said. “I have some pretty big shoes to fill but our linemen played great and our read recognition was good too.”
The reigning Southwest Prairie Conference co-champions Tigers (1-0) intercepted Boilermakers QB Nick Pippin (15-of-24 passing, 204 yards, TD) four times and recovered a key fumble late in the fourth quarter while getting key offensive contributions from senior quarterback Kurt Palandech (9-of-14 passing, 124 yards, TD) and senior wideout Quest Young (5 catches, 93 yards, TD).
Plainfield North outgained the Boilermakers 382 to 336 in total offense.
“It was a little nerve-racking to say the least,” Plainfield North coach Tim Kane said. “How about that for a first game from Jay. I think he got stronger as the game went on. That was a good football team that we played. We just made the plays on defense when we needed to.”
