Marist wins despite slow start

It took Marist a while to get focused against St. Viator in front of homecoming and the capacity crowd. They eventually settled in and got a 35-10 victory Friday in the East Suburban Catholic.
Viator struck first with 2:21 remaining in the first quarter on a 25-yard field goal by Will Solimene. That appeared to be the wake up call the RedHawks needed as they drove 80 yards in six plays scoring on a 23-yard run by quarterback Luke Oosterbaan with 43 seconds remaining in the first quarter to go up 7-3.
Oosterbaan scored his second touchdown of the half on a one-yard run with 20 seconds remaining.
The RedHawks remained focused in the third quarter and pushed the lead to 21-3 on a 19-yard run by John Crather.
Oosterbaan scored his third and final touchdown on a 35-yard run with 3:37 remaining in the third quarter.
He finished the evening 18 of 27 for 165 yards. He had seven carries for 59 yards.
Reserve quarterback Mickey Macius scored Viators lone touchdown on a nine-yard run with 3:21 remaining in the fourth quarter.
"We started out a little slow, but then we settled down and got things together," said Oosterbaan. "The offense line did a great job. On a couple of my runs, they were scrambled, but I saw the hole open up and I just took off."
"We had a couple of our drives stalled in the first half," said Marist coach Pat Dunne. "But at half time we talked about finishing strong and that's what we did."
