Cavitt carries Marian Central

Marian Central senior running back Corey Cavitt played his last home game in Woodstock Friday night but he made sure the St. Edward Green Wave would remember the name.
Cavitt lit up the Green Wave defense for four touchdowns on 33 rushes for 195 yards en route to a 27-7 Hurricane win.
"I just kept running and looked for my cut backs and they were there for me today," said Cavitt. "This week, we were all bonding. We really were working hard and just looking forward to pounding them."
A week after clinching a playoff berth, the Green Wave (6-2) came in hoping to clinch the Suburban Christian Conference and finally pulling through against Marian in the crossover matchup. Before the game, Green Wave coach Mike Rolando said Marian and the other teams from the Blue Division are the teams they have to beat to prove they are as good as advertised.
The Green Wave gave Marian a golden favor to start the game, not getting to the ball fast enough on the kickoff, allowing the Hurricanes (5-3) to recover it on the St. Edward 28-yard line. Eight plays later, it was Cavitt rumbling it from 3-yards out.
After both teams traded touchdowns, the Green Wave, who have now lost to Marian for eight years running, held the ball on the Hurricane 27 in what would become the play of the game. Coach Rolando tried to call a timeout before senior quarterback Ben Lehman hiked the ball. Almost every player stopped, however, with no whistle, Hurricane defensive end Matt Van Der Bosch got through for the easy sack.
"Apparently everybody heard it but the guy I was screaming it in the ear of," said Rolando. "Their team stopped, out team stopped, everybody except the one guy that tackled our quarterback."
On the ensuing drive, Cavitt took advantage of the freak play and rushed for 39 yards before punching it into the endzone and giving Marian the commanding 21-7 lead at the half.
The Green Wave defense, entering the game allowing an area low 8.9 PPG, settled down in the second half, giving up only six points and allowing Marian Central quarterback Ben Krol to complete only thee of his eight passes.
On the other side of the ball, Lehman (17-of-27 for 183 yards) and running back Maurice Jackson (18 rushes for 82 yards, TD) had an easy time moving the ball in the center of the field, but kept stalling once getting on the other side of the field.
"We were lacking some consistency," said Rolando. "When you run into one mistake hear or there, that puts you into one bad situation and you try to make something happen that isn't there."
Despite the loss, the Green Wave can still clinch the SCC and a home playoff game next week when they face off against Wheaton Academy.
