Koch carries Hurricanes to victory

Dominant play up front made life easy for Jared Koch.

The Marian Central running back piled up 212 yards on 15 carries to spark the Hurricanes to a 40-7 victory over Grayslake Central in the second round of the IHSA Class 5A state playoffs in Woodstock. Koch crashed into the end zone three times (1, 8 and 76 yards).

"It was all the line," Koch said. "They were getting downfield and sticking on their blocks. I just did my job as a back by finding the open holes and running."

Halfback Corey Cavitt added 96 yards on 21 carries with two touchdowns.

Marian Central (8-3) will travel to Montini (9-2) for a state quarterfinal game next weekend.

Grayslake Central (6-5) did score a late touchdown when quarterback Ray Beckman lofted an 8-yard TD pass to C.J. Stempeck.
