Cary-Grove(2-0) poured it on Marian Central (1-1) in the second half as quartback Tyler Krebs and Alex Hembrey both scored twice. Krebs finished the night with 16 rushes for 170 yards.
“We just softened them up in the first half,” Krebs said. “You’ve got to give the credit to the offensive line. We just kept pounding away.”
Cary-Grove led 10-3 at the half on a Eric Chandler 1-yard run and Marc Kerrigan’s 30-yard field goal.
Marian Central quarterback Andrew Stochl, who is filling in for the injured Jon Budmayr, finished 13-for-27 for 200 yards and one touchdown. Ryan Szardinski scored on a 2-yard pass and Corey Caevitt scored on a 51-yard run.
