Nazareth tops Marian Catholic

Nazareth 42, Marian Catholic 13: Junior standouts Mike Williams and LaSteven McKinney sparked Nazareth to a 42-13 East Suburban Catholic win Saturday over visiting Marian Catholic.

 

McKinney ran for 169 yards on 13 carries and had touchdown runs of 19, 61 and 50 yards. Williams tallied three sacks and added 67 rushing yards and a touchdown of his own.

“I was so excited,” Williams said. “I wanted that touchdown, it was my first of the season.”

Nazareth (5-1, 3-1) committed three turnovers in the first half but still led 14-0. Quarterback Adam Marske added a 22-yard touchdown pass to tight end Johnny Nelson.

Marian Catholic (1-5, 1-3) scored on a 15-yard pass from Joey Walker to Armando Lopez to make the score 14-6, with 11:38 left in the third quarter.

The Spartans stopped Nazareth on its next possession, but Williams recovered a fumble and returned it to the Marian 19-yard line. After that it was Nazareth.
