Maine South scores early, often

Maine South scored on its first four possessions and seven of its first eight Thursday to earn a 49-0 win over Maine West in Des Plaines.
After losing their first two games to highly ranked teams Schaumburg and Wheaton Warrenville South, the Hawks have beaten their last two opponents by a combined 91-0.
"That was nice for our defense," Maine South coach Dave Inserra said of the team's second consecutive shutout and holding down the Warriors, who averaged 30 points in their first two games. "It's all assignment football, and once we straightened that out, we played well."
Maine West, which runs an option offense, never sniffed the end zone against the Hawks (2-2).
Once again, Matt Alviti played the first half at quarterback. The sophomore went 9-for-11 for 124 yards and two touchdown passes and one interception, which came seconds before the half. Alviti also ran six times for 67 yards and a TD.
Imran Khan was his favorite target Thursday, catching four passes for 55 yards in the first half, including a 38-yard TD.
Scott Derrick caught two TD passes, one each from Alviti and Jimmy Frankos, who started the second half like he did last week.
Even though he's not played quarterback in the first half the last two weeks, Frankos is finding ways to get on the field. With linebacker and kicker Marcus Nelli out with a broken knee, Frankos made all seven extra points and did all the kickoffs and made four tackles on special teams.
"I had to step up," said the junior, who went 4-for-6 for 87 yards and a TD at quarterback. "I'll do whatever the team needs me to do. I always stay ready to play, both physically and mentally."
Nelli became the third major player lost to injury for the Hawks. The senior said he will be out at least six weeks. Defensive lineman Connor Klein hasn't played since Week 1, and offensive lineman Victor Nelson missed his second game in a row.
"I'm very proud of the way we played," Nelli said. "We didn't let up at all."
Maine West quarterback Ziggy Krycka led the Warriors (1-3) with 12 carries for 62 yards. Running back Calvin Williams added 45 yards on 15 carries.
The Warriors play Deerfield in the CSL North opener next week, while the Hawks play Niles West in the CSL South.
