Competing in the annual District 207 boys track meet, held at Maine South April 9, Maine West finished third -- behind the host Hawks and ahead of CSL North rival Maine East.
South won it with 99 points, while West tallied 69 and East 18.
The Warriors delivered six first-place finishes, including two by senior Jared Golojuch, who won shot put with a toss of 46 feet, 7 inches and discus with a throw of 124-5. West also won the 3200-meter relay -- in 8 minutes, 40.3 seconds -- and the 1600 relay (3:34.3).
Finishing first as well were sophomore Kevin Schaefer in the 3200 (10:21.6) and junior Juan Chavez in the 400 dash (53.0 seconds).
Second-place winners for West included Martin Chavez in the 800 (2:03.4), senior Eric Nash in the 300 intermediate hurdles (41.9), Alex Dumitriu in discus (122-0) -- and West's 800 relay (1:40.2) and 440 relay (47.1). Dumitriu also placed third in shot put (43-1).
Also finishing third was senior Brian Sloma, in both long jump (18-21.5) and triple jump (35-9.25) -- as well as sophomore Tony Fitzpatrick in the 100 high hurdles (17.3), junior Ben McGuiggen in the 100 dash (12.1), Mauricio Sierra in the 400 (56.0), senior Brian Katamy in the 1600 (4:50.0), junior Kevin Norman in high jump (4-10) and senior John Cirone in pole vault (10-6).
Earning fourth-place points were senior Dominick Bagneschi in high jump (41-5.5) and triple jump (35-8), freshmen Tim Bugajsky in the 3200 (10:42.0), Nash in the 200 (23.8) and senior Jake Natali in pole vault (10-0).
West returned against Lyons Township, on the road Wednesday, and will visit Hersey on Friday.
