Deerfield remained atop the Central Suburban Conference North Division race with a 51-0 victory over winless Maine East Thursday in Deerfield. The victorious Warriors (4-3, 3-0), raced out to a 45-0 halftime.

Deerfield quarterback Brad Holway was 2-2 in the game with both completions going for touchdowns. Holway connected with Ryan Adkins on a 35-yard screen pass and also hooked up with Jacob Balder on a 20-yard scoring strike. Holway also scored on a 39-yard run. Adkins added 64 and 13-yard touchdown runs, while Tyler Vajdic found the end zone on a six-yard run.

Warriors kicker Michael Maki tied a school record with a 43-yard field goal. The final touchdown came on a 62-yard fumble recovery by defensive back Ben Weiss. Deerfield’s defense was just as impressive limiting Maine East (0-7, 0-3) to few scoring chances. Maine East reached the Deerfield 29 late in the game, on a 24-yard pass from quarterback George Zakharia to Alex Corey. But on the next play, Warriors defensive back Matt Kollada intercepted a pass.

“We’re clicking on all cylinders now,” Deerfield coach Steve Winiecki said about his team that has won four straight games.
