Glenbrook South wins after quick start

Before kickoff Friday night, Glenbrook South appeared a bit too relaxed even when facing winless Maine East.
Little commotion, yelling or pad pounding in pregame warm-ups and sideline strategy before taking the field in the Central Suburban League crossover game.
But two minutes into the game, the mercurial Titans scored on a handoff to fullback Kevin Schroeder from inside the 5-yard line.
The Titans went on to win decidedly in a 63-12 victory, bringing their record to 3-1. The Blue Demons now stand at 0-4.
Senior Schroeder (36 yards rushing, four touchdowns, 45-yard receiving touchdown) scored again at 7:43. Teammate Ose Ilenikhena scored his first touchdown as a varsity player, then did it again and again (3 carries, 135 yards rushing, three touchdowns).
Titan Coach Mike Nolan said the junior Ilenikhena, a wide receiver, had played football only two years, but was showing improvement every game.
“He has talent and he’s just learning the game. He already knows how to use his speed, but there’s more to learn for Ose,” Nolan said after the game.
Maine East’s quarterback, senior George Zakharia had a busy night, but the Titan defense roughed him up most of the evening (40 yards passing, touchdown) and legs (60 yard rushing, 12 carries, touchdown).
Nolan said his team was improving as competition became greater since the season began.
On Sept. 9, the Titans lost to Stevenson High School 17-7.
“It was a close game with Stevenson, and I like where we’re at now in the season.”
