BACK AT NU

The second set of Evanston-New Trier basketball games returns to Northwestern’s Welsh-Ryan Arena. The doubleheader is Feb. 10.

Tickets will be on sale today at Evanston when the Wildkits host Niles West. Cost is $6 for adults and $3 for students and children, with $1 from each ticket going to the American Cancer Society. Evanston also will sell tickets at the school from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. next week. New Trier hopes to have tickets for sale at the school next week.

This is the 11th season the games have been played at Northwestern. Although the first meeting between the schools this season was played New Trier due to a scheduling conflict at the Northwestern gym.

HAWKEYE HAUL

Loyola senior Jack Richmond committed to play baseball for Iowa last week. The 6-4 left-hander finished with a 2.77 ERA last season as a junior. Richmond’s best effort might have been his three-hit shutout against Mount Carmel in the playoffs. Other area players off to Iowa next season are Jimmy Frankos (Maine South), Ryan Borucki (Mundelein), Blake Hickman (Simeon) and Devin Pickett (Marian Catholic).

TOURNEY TIME

The Public League boys basketball tournament will start with first round games on Wednesday. The full tournament bracket will be on yourseason.com when the seeds are announced this weekend. The quarterfinals are scheduled for Feb 12 with the semifinals following on the Feb. 15 and the title game on Feb. 17 at UIC.
