Alec Kosminskas, a two-year starter for the Loyola Academy football team, will continue his college career at Columbia University in New York.

Kosminskas made an oral commitment to attend the Ivy League school over the weekend. He was selected to the all-Chicago Catholic League Blue Division first team as a senior left tackle and was also named to the academic all-state team this year.

Girls hockey

A hat trick by Meredith Chait propelled the Loyola girls' hockey team past New Trier 7-4.

Samantha Scholl collected a pair of goals, while Maggi Tyska and Ellie Grober notched single markers. Tyska dealt three assists, while Chait, Jennifer Slaski and Julia Cowan also dished helpers. Goalkeeper Olivia Patterson earned the victory.

Brita Schneider lit the lamp twice for New Trier. Alex Krevitz and Courtney Alcock rounded out the Trevs scoring as Stephanie Duban, Erin Cook and Krevitz earned assists. Katie O'Grady protected the NT nets.

Youth soccer

The U11 Premier Spartan FC Boys soccer team (7-1-2) captured its division by one point by winning the final game of the season behind one of its best games.

The Spartans polished off the Mundelein Kickers 6-0 as Jordan Kaplan (2), Liam Kerrigan, Leo Mayer, Chase Krepp, and Danny Gross scored the goals. Allan Dontsis (2), Nick Abbott, Jeremy Doman and Mayer earned assists. The defense of Ian Albert, Danny Martens, Gross and Alec Mawrence continued to help out goalkeepers Ryan Liberman and Leo Meyer, who limited opponents to five goals for the season. Midfielders Kyle Sherman, Paul Licata and Ari Bruckman helped the offense score 30 goals in 10 games.
