Tommy Belton has emerged as a scoring machine for the Loyola Academy boys soccer team this season.
The senior has scored a team-high 21 goals and added 14 assists as the Ramblers are enjoying another stellar playoff run.
Belton's latest feat was a three-goal effort in the Ramblers' 5-0 victory over Maine West in the IHSA Loyola Regional finals Saturday. Belton, along with goals from brothers Dylan and Spencer Remick, and a combined shutout performance by goalies Neal Manahan and Tommy Feifer, improved Loyola to 15-2-2.
The Ramblers advanced to face Maine East in the Niles North Sectional, which was scheduled for Wednesday, with a berth in the sectional finals at 1 p.m. Saturday on the line. New Trieir and Niles North square off in the other semifinal.
Belton was named all-Chicago Catholic League and selected to the all-sectional squad.
"Tommy's been our workhorse," head coach Rob Etheridge said. "He earned his goals. He has striker's instincts and he responds well to team play and he's a good finisher."
Other Ramblers making the all-CCL team were the Remick brothers, John Manganaro, Michael Berens and Michael McGuire. Dylan Remick was picked for the all-state team, while Manganaro also was named to the all-sectional squad. Spencer Remick was chosen most valuable player in the CCL.
