Lockport setter Christina Wilson already is an outstanding player. Now she’s added a new serve to her arsenal.

Wilson had five aces and a dozen service points as the Porters dominated Joliet Central 25-12, 25-6 in a SouthWest Suburban Blue battle Thursday at Lockport.

The win pushed the Porters to 19-9 overall and 3-2 in the league. Central fell to 19-14, 1-4.

The Steelmen suffered a big blow early in the match when middle hitter T’ara Austin went down with a sprained right ankle after getting tangled up with Lockport’s Aubrey Ficek at the net.

The Porters led Game 1 7-3 when Austin went down. She didn’t return. Austin hopes it’s just a sprain, pending further examination.

“No, that didn’t help,” Central coach Suzzie Bambule said. “But this is a team game. It was time for the team to step up to the plate, but we didn’t take advantage and do that.

“Lockport had a phenomenal serving game, and their setter (Wilson) is very agile.”

Wilson served back-to-back aces to put the Porters ahead 10-3. Lizzie Ward responded with two of her three kills to bring the Steelmen to within 11-6, but they couldn’t draw closer.

Kelsey Frain (3 kills) opened Game 2 with a kill to give Central its only lead. Ficek (7 kills) bookended a 7-0 run with kills as Lockport answered with seven straight points.

Ahead 8-3, Wilson, who added 16 assists, had three aces in an 8-0 Porters blitz.

“It’s just a new thing I started about two weeks ago, a sidespin serve,” Wilson said. “We worked a lot on defense recently and that transferred to the match. We didn’t want to underestimate Joliet Central; we just went out and played.”

Alyssa Visvardis had 10 service points, eight digs and six good serve-receives for Lockport. Anna Bryniarski added 11 service points and six kills and Amanda MacNab had five kills for the Porters.

Jada Green had three kills and Lizette Gonzalez added 11 assists for the Steelmen.
