Most of Bolingbrook’s girls basketball opponents learn quickly that not only is there no room for error, there’s no room — period.

The ball-hawking, non-stop defense and quick transition offense spoiled Lockport’s home opener Thursday night as Bolingbrook rolled to a 74-21 SouthWest Suburban Blue victory.

“They put great defensive pressure on us,’’ Lockport coach Krista Peterson said. “That’s something that we have to learn to get to that level. It’s good to experience it, to learn from it.’’

“I think we came out with a lot more energy than we did on Tuesday night, so that was a positive,’’ Bolingbrook coach Tony Smith said of the 23-0 lead after the first quarter.

Lockport committed 18 first-half turnovers under constant pressure and the Porters fell behind 46-9 by halftime.

“When they bring the energy and the intensity to it, it’s pretty good,’’ Smith said of the Raiders’ stifling defensive pressure.

Lockport’s first point was Taylor Quain’s free throw with 6:51 left in the second quarter. The Porters’ first basket was a layup by Hannah Hollatz almost two minutes later.

“They forced us obviously into a lot of turnovers,’’ Peterson said. “Once we kind of settled down the second half and got it out of our system, we were able to regain our composure and handle the basketball.’’

Ten players scored for Bolingbrook (5-0, 3-0), led by Morgan Tuck (19 points) and Cabriana Capers (9 points).

It was Bolingbrook’s last game before the Nike Tournament of Champions starts next week.

“I expect four great games,’’ Smith said. “There’s going to be great talent. It’s going to be a challenge.’’

Lockport (2-6, 0-3) was led by Quain with eight points. The Porters won’t play again until after Christmas against T.F. North in the Hillcrest Tournament.

“I hope we use this as motivation,’’ Peterson said. “You see that level of play, you see that level of intensity, you’ve got to be able to bring that kind of intensity to practice to be prepared to go against it in a game.’’
