Snidanko, Lockport throw a block party

For Lockport’s Ted Snidanko it went all according to plan.

With the game tied, Snidanko came up with a blocked punt in the fourth quarter. The Porters offense then took advantage by converting it into the winning touchdown in a 28-21 victory over Plainfield North on Friday night.

The win improved the host Porters to 2-0. Plainfield North fell to 1-1.

“Actually, right before the play me and Jon Guess were talking and he said he’d open up a big hole for me the get through,” Snidanko said. “He did just that and I got through. The ball actually hit my elbow and it was a big play.”

Brad Johnson recovered the ball at the Tigers 29. Three plays later, Richie Guess became the third different Lockport runner to score when he took it in from 2 yards out to put the Porters ahead for good at 28-21 with 6:11 to play.

Plainfield North had two more possessions, and reached midfield with seconds to play. An interception by Shaun’ Qae McMurtry on the final play of the game clinched the victory.

“The kids stepped it up,” Lockport coach Don McKillip said.

The Tigers had tied the game in the third quarter. Quarterback Kurt Palandech scored on 20-yard touchdown on fourth-and-10 play and then added a 2-point conversion pass to knot the score at 21.
