Griffins destroy Lockport

Junior quarterback Blake Winkler completed 9 of 14 passes for 260 yards and three touchdowns as No. 14 Lincoln-Way East rolled over Lockport 45-14 in a SouthWest Suburban Blue matchup Friday night at Lockport.
The stats don't matter,'' Winkler said. The O-line did their job. I just hit my spots and the receivers did a great job. It felt great and was a good team win.''
We've seen our young kids gain confidence,'' Lincoln-Way East coach Rob Zvonar said. And we're seeing the maturation of a special kid in Blake.''
Lockport (2-2, 0-2) scored first when Dan Holman burst through for a 68-yard touchdown run on a fourth-and-1 play from his own 32 with 7:48 left in the first quarter. Otherwise Holman was held in check as he finished with 95 yards on 12 carries.
From there it was all Griffins (3-1, 2-0) as Winkler threw first-half touchdown passes of 84 and 10 yards to Kyle Buchbach (four catches, 107 yards) and 65 yards to Jason Robertson. East led 24-7 at half.
Dave Mahl, Tyler Starke and Vince Teodoro added second-half touchdown runs as the Griffins extended to a 45-7 lead.
Their all-stater (Holman) broke a big play and I thought it would be a 48-minute, drag-out battle,'' Zvonar said. But our defense adjusted to their schemes well.''
