Plano cruises past Lisle

The Plano football team is loving the 2011 season already.
The Reapers not only had a nice performance from Joseph Jones, but new quarterback Trevor Rea did good things as well in his debut at his new school. The duo helped Plano to a convincing 43-9 Interstate Eight Conference crossover win against Lisle at Benedictine University Friday night.
“To come out and execute like we did, we exceeded our own expectations,” Plano coach Jim Green said. “We were hitting well on all cylinders.”
Jones, a senior running back who broke his leg after two games last year, was responsible for 21 of Plano’s 35 first-half points. The Northwestern-bound star finished with two touchdowns and 163 yards in roughly two-and-a-half quarters of play. That includes his 85-yard touchdown pass from Rea in the first quarter and a 77-yard touchdown pass from Rea again in the second.
“Once I touched the ball, I was excited, energized and ready to go,” said Jones, who admitted he was a bit nervous before the game.
“It’s easy when (Jones) is in the backfield,” added Rea, a 6-foot-5 senior transfer from Benet Academy. “No one is really getting on me. They are aiming for Joe Jones.”
Weslye Brown was the first to score for Plano on a 21-yard touchdown run at 9:07. He finished with 69 yards. Alan Vega scored in the second quarter on a 31-yard touchdown run. He finished with 91 yards.
“Even though (Jones) had an outstanding game, we had other guys contribute,” Green said. “The linemen did an excellent job tonight getting some openings for those guys. We have a talented backfield. If we produce a little bit of daylight, they’ll run through it.”
Plano was up 21-0 before Lisle managed a 31-yard field goal from Kazim Khan with 41.3 seconds left in the first quarter. The Lions did not score again until the 4:51 mark in the fourth quarter, when Nick Leonard rolled in for a 1-yard run.
“Plano is very good,” Lisle coach Dan Sanko said. “I think our kids got jacked in the jaw and didn’t know how to recover. Plano came out, got physical and we didn’t respond. They are pretty balanced on both sides of the ball. If they stay healthy, they are going to have a darn good season.”
