Interstate Eight Conference Championship

Wilmington, ranked No. 1 in Class A by Illinois Best Weekly, captured five individual titles and won the Interstate Eight Conference tourney with 203 points. Sandwich (164), Manteno (150) and Lisle (133) completed the top four teams.

Two wrestlers maintained their perfect records by winning titles, but another unbeaten wrestler lost in the finals.

Wilmington's Jake Murphy improved to 32-0 at 152 pounds and Coal City's Chase Odeen edged Plano's JJ Cannon in the 160 title match to move to 27-0.

In the 135 final, Manteno's Jon Santoro (27-7) beat Wilmington's John Van Duyne (30-1) 4-2 in overtime.

Wilmington's other winners were Garth Cartwright (24-6) at 112, Steve Heino (28-2) at 130, Jeremy Bailey (31-2) at 171 and heavyweight Alfonso Dingillo (26-8).

Coal City had three champs in Odeen, David Hanley (24-9) at 125 and Charles Nugent (19-16) at 189.

Also winning titles were Sandwich's Alphonse Vruno (27-3) at 103 and Blake Tirevold (27-4) at 119, Manteno's Brian Anderson (29-6) at 145, Plano's Travis Tomac (26-4) at 140 and Lisle's Kevin Murray (28-3) at 215.
