Having already clawed back into Wednesday’s game after being doubled up early, Lincoln-Way Central had its chances against rival Lincoln-Way North.
But after climbing to within four points in the fourth, the Knights ran out of gas offensively falling 41-29 to North at the Medieval Classic.
“North does a good job taking you out of your rhythm offensively,” Central coach Chris Fetherling said. “We missed some really easy opportunities, and that hurt us at the end of the game. We dug out of a hole, but it was tough.”
Kelsie Foster had nine points for Lincoln-Way Central (8-5), with Autumn Schultz scoring eight. The Knights will play Lincoln-Way West at 3 p.m. today in the third-place game at Lincoln-Way East.
From the get-go Wednesday, Central was playing catch-up, trailing 11-0 in the first and 24-12 in the second quarter. North went ice-cold from the floor though, going scoreless for eight minutes over the second and third quarters.
Rachel Post’s free throw with 6:27 remaining in the fourth brought the Knights to within 31-27, but it was Central that ran out of gas offensively.
Veronica Baldermann’s three-pointer late in the third was the last basket Lincoln-Way Central made as the team was limited to three points in the fourth quarters on free throws.
“North’s zone disrupted our rhythm and flow a bit,” Fetherling said. “We didn’t adjust as well as we should have, and they kept us in a halfcourt offense.”
Central finished 6-of-28 overall from the field but hit 13-of-17 free throws in the game. Lincoln-Way North (13-2) hit 8-of-11 free throws in the fourth to ice the game.
