Lincoln-Way North wasn’t going to let Lincoln-Way West ruin its Homecoming on Friday night.

In a SouthWest Suburban Red clash in Frankfort, the Phoenix outlasted the Warriors 7-3.

The Phoenix got on the board first with 11:39 left in the first quarter as Tre Lewis ran for a 6-yard touchdown and Andrew Ricker delivered the point-after kick.

It was a different story for Lincoln-Way West, which lost four of five fumbles before the end of the first half. Quarterback Kyle Millner fumbled on the first snap of the game, the ball being recovered by North’s Ryan Negrelli.

The Warriors’ fumbling woes bled into the second half, with turnovers coming with 4:18 left in the third quarter and another with 1:59 left in the fourth.

“We’ve got to get better,” Warriors coach Mark VanderKooi said. “If we want to play championship ball we have to get better. That stuff is inexcusable.”

The Warriors got on the board on a 34-yard field goal by Cole Lukanus with 4:58 left in the game. The score was set up after a North fumble.
