Thornton storms back after early deficit
Lincoln-Way North struck first Friday night.
Then everything went Thornton’s way.
The Wildcats scored 20 unanswered points in a 20-7 SouthWest Suburban Red victory in Frankfort.
Lincoln-Way North (2-2, 0-2) appeared to have things under control, scoring with 5:06 left in the first quarter when quarterback Troy Holder hit running back Jake Dixon for a 9-yard touchdown pass. Andrew Ricker’s point-after put the Phoenix up 7-0.
The Wildcats (3-1, 2-0) came back with 10:15 left in the second period. Quarterback Jason Towns ran for a 6-yard touchdown, and Aaron Zambrano’s point-after tied the game at 7.
Jowahn Brown replaced Towns at quarterback later in the quarter. With 40 seconds left, he hit running back Jamal Towns for an 8-yard gain, and Jamal scored on second-and-goal from the 2 with 26.8 seconds left to give Thornton a 14-7 halftime lead.
Zambrano’s 25-yard field goal made it 17-7 with 8:01 left in the third quarter.
Zambrano added a 27-yard field goal with 2:09 left in the game to complete the scoring.
