Experience proved to be the big difference when Lockport's boys soccer team traveled to Lincoln-Way North for a SouthWest Suburban Conference crossover match on Monday.
The Porters have 15 seniors on their roster while the Phoenix have no seniors on their team and that disparity was apparent as the visitors claimed a 3-0 win in Frankfort.
Lockport (10-1, 5-0) captured its ninth-straight victory while North (1-10-3, 0-4) couldn't follow up on its 2-2 tie against highly-regarded Naperville North on Saturday.
"We've got a lot of experience and leadership on this team and the success that we've had is based on that," Porters first-year coach Dan Baumhardt said. "So right now it's just about our game-to-game confidence and being consistent."
The Porters got the only goal that they would need with 27:29 remaining in the opening half when Enzo Berrini fired off a grounder that found the net.
They grabbed a 2-0 advantage with 15:29 left in the first half when Bob Novak was tripped up in the box and then made the subsequent penalty kick.
Lockport wrapped up the scoring with 10:18 to go in the match when Matt Bergamini put in a loose ball following a deflected shot attempt by Novak.
Chris Hickstein stopped six shots to post the winners' fourth shutout while North keeper Danny Mack kept his team in the contest by making 15 saves.
"Lockport controlled the ball and attacked very well, so give them credit," Phoenix coach Mike Murphy said. "We've been improving in every single game, but the one thing that we're missing is that we really don't have a goal scorer."
