Girls volleyball: Meader resigns from Lincoln-Way East

After four winning seasons as the head softball coach at Lincoln-Way East, Katie Meader has resigned.

“Having a baby and being part of Loyola University’s doctoral program, I just can’t balance everything anymore,” Meader said. “My focus is moving forward in the doctoral program, and it would be unfair to my athletes because I would not be able to devote the amount of time that I feel is necessary to give them the best experience.”

Meader will maintain her position as the coordinator of student activities at Lincoln-Way East.

As an outfielder herself, Meader helped lead Lockport High School to a state softball title in 1997 and was also a star at Loyola University.

As a head coach, she compiled an 88-30 record during her tenure at Lincoln-Way East. Her teams captured two Class 4A regional titles.

“The most important thing was not the win at the end of the day, but the idea that hopefully I have affected a kid’s life for the better,” Meader said. “That’s what it really comes down to, the relationship you build with your athletes. That’s the success of a coach.

“I’m sad (about resigning). It wasn’t an easy decision, but truly it’s best for everyone involved.”
